Top Podcasts – BiggerPockets
Some of the top podcasts I listen to on the BiggerPockets platform that have helped me get started on my financial journey.
BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast
This is the main podcast of the BiggerPockets community discussing all things real estate. David Greene and Rob Abisolo interview real estate successes as well as keeping people updated on what is happening in the market. The success stories are really motivating to hear and informational on different directions you can take in this field of investing. They tend to go into a bit more detail than just the basics but David does a show once a week where he answers questions from the audience and BiggerPockets community.
The podcast has helped me define a better strategy for investing in my local market. Renting out rooms, medium term rentals, short term, long term, wholesaling, and flipping is all talked about on the show. My local market is a great place for medium term rentals where tenants rent the house completely furnished between 30 days to under 1 year. Big hospitals where traveling nurses is a big hit for medium term rentals as well as construction in the area.
BiggerPockets Real Estate Rookie
The Real Estate Rookie show covers simpler topics on more of the beginning side of investing in real estate as well as answering questions from the audience. Ashley and Tony both come from different spaces in the real estate world and offer great insight to the deeper topics of Airbnb”s, property management, long term rentals, strategies of investing, and setting your real estate goals. The investors and other people they interview have great stories about the beginning of their investing journey or how they got started. This is definitely worth checking out if you’re curious about getting into the real estate space!
The podcast has helped me narrow down my criteria in searching for properties as well as learning different strategies on how to optimize on cash flow. Currently I’m still working on my first House Hack and having a proper lease with my roommate has saved me thousands of dollars since he wanted to move out early. Since he was in a true lease, he had a few options:
- Buy out the remaining 10 months (I gave him a discounted price of $4,000 total)
- Keep paying the lease until I find another tenant
- Find another tenant that is qualified and approved by me
- Live in property until the lease is up
BiggerPockets Money Podcast
The Money Podcast, hosted by Scott Trench and Mindy Jensen, is a fun alternative to the real estate show where the duo discuss all things money, investing, saving, and how to get you to where you want to be financially. They answer listener questions that are curious about their next steps or where to get a better return on their money. My favorite episodes are where they bring on a guest that is trying to figure out their next steps. Some guests come with all kinds of debt, lots of money to figure out where to grow it, how to get out of their current job, and everywhere in between. Some episodes are great for college students figuring out how to pay off student debt and how to get ahead of it by House Hacking, saving, and working.
Not every episode in these podcasts may be for you but listening to the discussions may inspire you to do something different or answer a question you’ve been wondering about for a long time. It’s helped me gain perspective on money and real estate with some life lessons included. It is always worth listening to because you never know what will spark your interest, and it may even be one single sentence that changes your whole mindset and life.
